This summer, eight lucky Junior Farmers are leaving Ontario to explore the world around us. Follow along on the JFAO blog as we hear from the JF Travellers before, during, and after their big adventure!

Hylô! According to my internet search that is hello in Welsh (hope I got it right). I am excited to be heading across the pond to meet, greet, learn, and travel with the Welsh Young Farmers Club July 12 – July 28, 2015.

Since my first Junior Farmer March Conference in 2009, applying for a JF Travel Scholarship has been one of my goals. As the Provincial Director of Renfrew County Junior Farmers it has been a challenging and rewarding experience helping to bring the club back to the county after a long absence. We have a great group of members building a strong club and doing an excellent job creating community relationships.

As a full time farmer, two weeks away may be a shock to the system but I am looking forward to learning about agriculture in Wales. Sharing common concerns about everyday challenges, comparing farming practices, and discussing international issues affecting agriculture plus the opportunity to meet new people and have new experiences are the main reasons I applied for a travel scholarship.

My travel itinerary has me arriving in Newtown in Powys by train on July 12. Shortly after arrival, July 18, I join the Welsh Young Farmers Club at the Royal Welsh Show, camping at the Pentref Leuenctid (Young Peoples Village) with about 3000 other young farmers from across Wales and the U.K. I hope to meet up with a few international delegates that we hosted from the U.K. in past years while at the show.

Hwyl am or bye for now (apologies if the internet has lied to me). I will be posting pictures of my adventures on my Facebook page as I go along if you want to keep track of my travels.
