Never Felt Like a Tourist
I didn’t really have any idea what to expect from my 6 week exchange to Switzerland, but I can honestly say the whole experience has excided my expectations.
What I enjoyed most about my exchange is that I got to really experience the Swiss culture, from the language to the food and the Swiss agriculture. I never felt like a tourist but a local.
I started my exchange knowing absolutely no words in Swiss German but now I can understand some conversations and say a few words. I can even say Chuchichäschtli (Which means cupboard) decently after being asked to say it many, many times throughout my exchange. I got to try Raclette, Hugo, Fondue, and even helped to bake Zopf (Braided bread) for Sundays, though I must admit that I am not very good at braiding the dough.
My favourite part of my entire exchange was touring the different farms and helping my host families with their day-to-day chores on the farm. I got to milk Brown Swiss Cows, help with hay cut and I even got to see the beef cows get ready to head to the alps for summer vacation!
I am grateful that I got to experience such an amazing exchange and got to stay with amazing host families, everyone was so welcoming, and I learned so much from this amazing experience.
