Many of our alumni are extremely grateful for the leadership training, social networking, travel, and other opportunities they received through membership in Junior Farmers. While JFAO is extremely grateful for the annual donations made by our most supportive alumni, legacy gifts through wills or trusts enable our alumni and friends to make a lasting significant gift that can provide an even more significant benefit to the future of JFAO and rural leadership development.

Gifts out of your estate may be made to support annual programs and operation or the expansion of the JFAO 50th Anniversary Endowment Fund, where they will provide an even stronger lasting benefit through the generation of interest that provides annual support.

Bequests
A bequest to JFAO can be unrestricted or can be directed to a specific program or opportunity such as Leadership Camp, exchanges, or the Ontario Young Farmers Forum. Bequest gifts have significant tax advantages. A charitable income tax receipt for the full value of your gift will be issued to your estate, which can be applied to 100% of final taxes arising from income, deemed disposition of assets and/or capital gains. This income tax receipt may be used in the final return and it may be carried back to the previous year.

While it’s recommended that you consult a lawyer to assist you in drafting or revising your Will to create a charitable bequest to JFAO, we welcome the opportunity to work with you in best assisting you with planning your permanent legacy within JFAO.

Sample Bequest Clauses
1. A specific bequest directs that JFAO receive a specific dollar amount from your estate.

Example: "I give to the Junior Farmers’ Association of Ontario, with its head office in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, the sum of $_______ in my name (or designate) to be used for ......... (or, if your bequest is for $10,000 or more, to be endowed in the JFAO 50th Anniversary Endowment Fund)” .

2. A residual bequest directs that JFAO receive all, or a number of shares, from the remainder of the estate after other specific legacies have been fulfilled.

Example: "I give to the the Junior Farmers’ Association of Ontario, with its head office in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, the whole of (or, 1 or more equal shares) of the residue of my estate in my name (or designate) to be used for ........ (or, if your bequest is for $10,000 or more, to be endowed in the JFAO 50th Anniversary Endowment Fund).”

3. A contingent bequest directs that JFAO receive all or a share of the estate only in the event of the prior death of other named beneficiaries.

Example: "If any of the beneficiaries named in this Will should die before becoming entitled to receive their distributive share of my estate, I direct my trustee to pay or transfer the share to which such beneficiary would otherwise be entitled, to the Junior Farmers’ Association of Ontario, with its head office in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, to be used for .......... ........ (or, if your bequest is for $10,000 or more, to be endowed in the JFAO 50th Anniversary Endowment Fund).”

JFAO will gladly assist you in creating your legacy to meet your objectives and ensure that we carry out your wishes. Please consult your legal counsel in drafting your will.

Insurance

A gift of life insurance can enable you to make a significant future contribution through a relatively modest current investment. You can create a new policy, or transfer an existing policy to JFAO, designating JFAO as owner and beneficiary. In both cases the premiums you pay are eligible charitable gifts and you will receive a yearly tax receipt equal to premium payments. A gift of life insurance can also be made to achieve estate planning goals. In this case you maintain ownership of your policy but designate JFAO as the beneficiary. The premiums paid are not tax deductible; however, because JFAO is the future beneficiary, a tax receipt will be issued to your estate to offset taxes.

Other
Please consult your lawyer or financial advisor for other methods of bequest that best meet your needs.
